Three-page short story fragment about an old farm house inherited by a 20-something urbanite.
File consists of born-digital records generated from participation in “The Big One”, a yearlong creative writing workshop at Firefly Creative Writing in Toronto, Ontario, from Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2022. This course was the creator's first foray into writing fiction and poetry for adults, and includes poems, song lyrics, responses to writing prompts, short story fragments and novel fragments. Subject matter ranges widely from the slowness of island life and the nature of relationships to exotic species and monocultures.
Documents are arranged in the original order as received from the creator. Documents are either in Microsoft Word or Apple Pages format.
This series details Jae Kim’s exhibition at The ArQuives from September 2024 to July 2025, which focused on transgender/gender-diverse folks from the Asian diaspora and their notions of kinship. Participants were selected from across Canada, representing diverse experiences and regional perspectives. This exhibition was part of a larger series of ongoing exhibitions by the Curatorial Committee intended to increase community engagement and outreach efforts, funded by a $1000 grant from the Mark S. Bonham Centre at the University of Toronto.
Series consists of records related to the planning, promotion, and execution of the exhibit, including meeting minutes, contracts, invoices, participant forms, flyers, photographs, video footage, exhibition schedules, programming documents, and correspondence. Correspondence includes communication between Kim, Curatorial Committee members, staff at The ArQuives, and exhibit participants. Series also contains creative outputs produced by participants, including zines, short films, photographs, and audio recordings.
Records have been organized thematically in three broad phases that reflect the development of the exhibition: pre-exhibit planning, the exhibit’s active period, and post-exhibit documentation.
