Part of Dylan Norton Fonds

Series includes the written notes, digital textual records, and graphic material created by Dylan Norton during his five years of undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The physical written materials are almost entirely in-class notes and translation notes for Latin and Greek texts, while the digital textual records are term papers and other written assignments, and the graphic materials are PowerPoint presentations. Subjects covered are predominantly classical history, political science, history more broadly, and Greco-Roman literature. Files are ordered chronologically by year and semester, and grouped according to record type (that is, physical textual records, digital textual records, and graphic materials).

Part of Dylan Norton Fonds

This research paper was written by Dylan Norton as the culmination of his year-long political science MA degree. It details at length the rise of illiberal and authoritarian politics in the United States in the 21st century, and argues that the digital media landscape and the rise of social media as the main public forum has led to both extreme partisan polarization and a deluge of political misinformation spread by bad actors. Additionally, with the neoliberal political order in the process of breaking down, Norton argued that the current right-wing movement centered around a perceived zero-sum battle between social groups, mistrust in democracy, and the scapegoating of demographic minorities is an unforeseen but unsurprising result of the application of neoliberal ideals in a non-ideal reality. He predicted that either the progressive strain of liberalism would see a resurgence as people came to realize the shortcomings of the old order, or that the masses would be swayed by kleptocrats and demagogues into accepting illiberal and undemocratic governance in the guise of "fixing" an otherwise fine system under attack by malicious out-groups. He is sad to see that the latter has taken place.

Part of Dylan Norton Fonds

Series contains the written notes, digital papers and assignments, and powerpoint presentations created during Dylan Norton's graduate studies career. Files are ordered chronologically by degree and grouped according to record type. That is, his Classics MA first, then his PoliSci MA, and then his MI, with written notes, digital textual records, and graphic materials grouped together by degree. The graphic material consists entirely of PowerPoint presentations, except three jpg. images of original drawings included in the "Classics MA Papers" digital file, since they were created to accompany a specific paper therein.

INF1331H 2025-03-13/10 · Fonds · [ca. 1998] - 2025

Fonds consists of the records generated during Dylan Norton's lifetime thus far, overwhelmingly from his academic career. The series are divided chronologically into the period before his secondary schooling ([ca. 1998]-2009), during his secondary schooling (2009-2013), his undergraduate studies (2014-2019), and his graduate studies up to the time of writing (2019-2025). The first two series contain a variety of school assignments, notes, and artifacts of recreational activities in both graphic and textual form, from childhood and public school art projects to written academic works of many sorts. The two post-secondary series are mostly textual, and consist primarily of written notes and digital assignments, mostly in the form of term papers of varying topic and scope. However, the PowerPoint presentations he created as part of his classes and teaching assistant work have also been included, and classified as graphic material.
