Jason Kahei Wong fonds
INF1331H UTA003 · Fonds · 2006-09-01 - 2024-04-11

This fonds consists of multimedia records documenting Jason Kahei Wong’s music works, public life, and personal affairs in Hong Kong. The records predominantly reflect his experiments in composing classical guitar music in alternative genres. In particular, his original scores and live performance videos showcased the soundscape and versatility of nylon-string guitar that was not considered possible. Another focus of this fonds are the records about his religious life. A considerable amount of textual materials document the worldview he developed through bible study sessions with his peers, who tried to make sense of biblical principles with Chinese norms and values. On a large part, these records serve as an important segway to understanding Wong’s position and point of view in the 2019 Hong Kong Protest. This fonds includes a series of political essays written by Wong. They reported on key events that took place during the Protest and expressed his visions for truth, justice, and harmony. The research materials for the essays feature first-hand interviews, photographs, and videos of petitions sites. There are also records of Wong’s education in the form of journals, course notes, papers, and graphical materials.

Part of Brittany Taylor Jeans fonds

This series consists of photographic documentation of Brittany’s framing designs and methodologies taken during her position at Newfoundland Canvas. These photos often depict unframed artworks next to chosen frame samples, as a photo was taken after every design consultation and attached to a framing order for reference in the production process. As Brittany served local bestselling artists and well-known art galleries, many reference photos evidence the design process for popular art products or exhibits in St. John’s and throughout Newfoundland. Photo subjects of interest include framing for an 18th century nautical map of Newfoundland, and preparations for an exhibit on the photography of Edith S. Watson - an American photographer who spent time in Newfoundland in the early 1900s.

A variety of artistic mediums and heritage items are represented, such as pastels, watercolour paintings, canvas paintings, cross stitch, rug hookings, doilies, other textile arts, family heirloom objects, and new and vintage photographs. Digital photos are in JPEG and HEIC formats. Paper textual records are Brittany’s accompanying handwritten notes which outline techniques and materials used to frame specific types of items.

Collages
INF1331H 2025 - 00001-1 · Series · 2007 - 2025
Part of Sofia Harwell fonds

Series consists of 116 multimedia collages. In a 2023 article published in Canadian Art, her collages were noted for their “intricate mosaic-like appearance, their depictions of animal-like creatures in Canadian landscapes, and their focus on the human impact and encroachment upon the natural world”. The works use a combination of factory-made traditional and origami paper, handmade paper, photographs (primarily black-and-white), dried botanicals, fabric, PVA Glue, modge podge, and acrylic paint.
The series groups collages into one file each for three published books: Mushrooms for Mae (2016, Annick Press), Beeker and Bock Go To the Meadow (2018, Annick Press), and What Plants? (2020, Annick Press).

The series also includes stand-alone works that did not form a part of the three published children’s books. These stand-alone works of art differ in style significantly than those included in her books, with more serious themes and images, more intricate designs, and darker, more muted colour palettes dominating. The series also includes reproductions (photographs) of collages that were either sold or gifted to someone.
