Age Friendly GIANTs

Age Friendly GIANTs was a project conducted from 2017 and 2019 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The project was organized via Age Friendly Thunder Bay and StoryCentre Canada and coordinated by Nancy Angus. "GIANTs" stands for "Grand Individuals Aging with Neighbours in Thunder Bay." The project was designed to support strategies for seniors' aging in place in the region and improve the health and well- being of seniors living alone. The project was conducted in two phases. Phase 1 (2017) provided a digital storytelling workshop to ten older adults, with a focus on neighbourhoods, communities, and aging at home. Results of the project included ten videos produced by the participants, posters and tip sheets, and several public events. Phase 2 (2019) included the development of an education kit to accompany the Phase 1 videos, Tea Talks held throughout the summer to develop community, a concluding "Giants Castle" event in October 2019 to share information about aging at home, and a series of cable television spots.

Galluzzo, Emily

Emily Galluzzo is a graduate student at the University of Toronto’s iSchool pursuing a Master of Information in Archives and Records Management and is currently a volunteer archivist at the Ontario Jewish Archives. Galluzzo was born on July 17, 2002, in Mississauga Ontario, where she grew up. Upon graduation, Galluzzo moved to London, Ontario, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts with an Honours Specialization in Media, Information, and Technoculture at Western University from September 2020 to May 2024. During her undergraduate degree, Galluzzo was a co-op student at Western University’s Archives and Special Collections from September 2023 to April 2024, a role that inspired her current academic pursuits at the iSchool. At Western University, she was a sports columnist at the student-run newspaper, the Western Gazette from February 2022 to April 2022. While at Western University, she also contributed to the Purple Spur Society’s Charity Fashion Show as a Clothing Stylist from September 2023 to April 2024.

Jade Zhu (朱郁淇) was born in 1999 in Zhengzhou, China. She attended Huzhulu Primary School and Zhengzhou Experimental Foreign Language Middle School. During her senior year in middle school, Jade briefly moved to New Zealand to attend language school.

In August 2014, Jade moved in with the LaPlants in Poughkeepsie, New York and started attending high school at Our Lady of Lourdes High School. During which Jade participated in various sports teams and started to take interests in game development. After 3 years, Jade graduated high school and started attending Boston University in 2017, pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering. During her years in Boston, Jade was a member of the Boston University FAE Racing club and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. She briefly worked as an usher at Agganis Arena before Covid shut down. Upon obtaining her degree in 2021, she attended the State University of New York in Binghamton for a degree in Psychology. She worked at the Binghamton University Speaking Center as a consultant in 2023.

Beginning in September 2024, Jade moved to Toronto, Canada, to study archive and record management at the University of Toronto.

Outside of her academic life, Jade enjoys various creative activities including photography, creative writing, making fabric arts and airplane models. She is also an avid sports fan, enjoying watching old recordings and making score cards.
